Hallo, soll ich diese Tasche die nächsten 4 Monate anlassen? Ich habe das Gefühl, dass der Olivenbaum kein Licht auf die Blätter bekommt?

I don’t think you should cover it like that they will starve

  2. Who told you to do that? Olive trees are fully hardy, it will be absolutely fine without protection

It will be absolutely fine; they are as tough as old boots. You don’t need to cover them at all. I have had mine outside in pots for fifteen years and we’ve had a few nasty winters in that time and they’re peachy. Happy as anything.

The bags trap moisture in them, so if no frost is likely, take it out of the bag.

Also Olive trees don’t tolerate wet conditions very well and is likely to kill it off, so I would keep it somewhere dry over the winter months.

Olive trees are pretty tough….they are a bit tender when young but become hardier as they mature. I think your bag is a little bit of an overkill. Olives will need light and airflow. Buy a few metres of horticultural fleece…..leave your olive naked to enjoy the sunshine and if a severe frost is forecasted, let’s say minus 3 or more, then wrap your little tree in fleece for the night. One sheet of fleece gives 1 degree of protection…so if you wrap your tree in 5 layers of fleece it will survive minus 5. Then, as soon as the frost has passed, unwrap your tree and let it enjoy the winter sunshine.

I’ve never done anything for my olive tree. They’re very hardy. Drainage is the issue with them in winter not the cold

Is sheltered anyway in the corner. My olive trees in Kent grew quite large and I never protected them.

  8. I’m in the UK and my Olive tree has been going strong for 15 years, the closest it’s ever even been to being touched is when my dog pulled some low branches off it, they’re bomb proof
