Worms are a good sign
absolutely safe, in fact you got the best results too
Worms are great. They are doing a great job for me and my compost bin and I think of them as wiggly pets, together with their ant buddies living in the plastic dalek.
What do you think MAKES the compost? 🫠
Congratulations
Good compost!
👍🏽
I am jealous!
Not safe at all. Much safer to tip it into my compost bin. Just in case, you know.
Worms are a plus side.
So there’s two plus sides
How can people have compost bins and still not know how it works? Take some time out people and learn.
Is this bin more successful that your actual designated compost bin? If so I would look at why.
One of the common mistakes with compost bins is having a compacted waterlogged layer at the base, and not doing anything about it. Worms and the compost microbiome need some air. You can make good compost in a garden incinerator, for example, the kind with air/drain holes near the base and a funnel lid (it will rust pretty quickly, but it’s a way to repurpose them on the way out) . You also want the heap to be moist not dry or sopping which means sometimes watering it and other times throwing a sack over.
Thinking of your new-found friends, you could turn your main heap to aerate it and then rehome some of them there.
Tons of orange centipedes in mine!
You win today’s compost post. You should be smiling and be happy. This is a good sign.
Jesus F Christ as someone that is terrified of worms I wasn’t prepared for that 🙃
Growing up in South Africa, my dad kept a “worm farm” rather than a compost bin. You could drop a whole papaya in that 50 gallon drum and there’d be nothing left within a couple of days.
He was also the best mate of every fisherman we knew………
If you know someone who likes fishing, you’ll be very popular.
Worms are a great sign. I have a worm farm for my compost. They are helping you have amazing quality compost. Yes you can add this to your main bin.
All good, that’s how it supposed to be.
Nice humblebrag.
Worms = good.
Good sign.
Worms will really dislike certain things you can bung into conventional compost bins, but keep doing what you’ve been doing and the wee chaps will do your mud a world of good.
How is the best way to get the worms out of the compost when you want to use it?
Mine is absolutely full of worms and I used the compost for my chillies this year. I put the chillies in my porch as it’s the warmest place and all the worms came out of the bottom and died. I only noticed when I came home from work one day and my porch fucking stank.
You nailed it
