This weekend we sowed hundreds of seeds for the upcoming season: broccoli, cabbages, cauliflower, bok choy, kale, so many other leafy greens, and a few fall flowers too. They’re *already* sprouting in our new seed starting area in the garage (RIP trippy grow room barn 👋🏼) showing so much eagerness, hope, and life already. 🌱 I just hope I can match their energy this year 😮‍💨

The fall garden is usually something I absolutely love – pulling out all the wild, fading, scraggly summer stuff, replacing it with fresh neat rows of lush leafy greens. This year? It’s been a rough one. So busy, so stressful, stretched so so thin. We’d never just skip planting a fall garden altogether- it feeds us through winter and into spring after all – but the thought of planning, clearing out all the beds, amending the soil, and spending long long hours bent over to transplant dozens of seedlings (and direct sow some too) definitely isn’t sparking the same joy as usual this year.

So today I’m just reflecting on the pretty view from last year, knowing this year will be a miracle to happen at all, and envying you folks who are forced to take a gardening break over winter 😅 All in all, feeling good to have at least started seeds. One step at a time.

Genuinely my dream garden. I notice you use gravel for the path. I hear a bunch about how much of a pain gravel is. Have you found the upkeep hard?

  3. Your garden is so beautiful and motivating. Thank you so much for sharing. What zone are you?

Beautiful garden. It’s nice to see raised beds with soil all the way to the top, we always tell clients visible wood above the soil line is wasted root zone.
