Hallo zusammen.

Call your local rescue centre. Absolutely don’t move it or wake it without getting advice from them.
Hedgie might be ok but it’s best not to disturb them once they get their heads down. If you were quietly and carefully able to tie a tarpaulin to the fence there and then down to the ground so it covers the grass clippings, hedgie will be more dry and consequently warm. You can get a cheap tarpaulin for a fiver online.
UPDATE: found a rescue centre who can take him so will be able to take him late evening when I have the car. Weighed him and he’s a little underweight so will be best for him to overwinter. Thanks everyone
UODATE 2: turns out it’s a little girly hoggie! She’s an adolescent, a little underweight but has stomach parasite. Rescue centre were brilliant, took her in, gave her some antibiotics and put her in an incubator with a big meal. She looks very happy and will hopefully be good. Son called her Norman when we thought she was a boy so she’s now called Normina 😂 things all being well we’ll pick Normina up in the spring so that she can that she can go back to her familiar surroundings.
Thank you for helping the hedgehog.
For future visitors/ residents you could buy and install a hedgehog house, and maybe put out some hedgehog food for them (especially in Autumn). Also very important to make sure there is an easy way in and out of your garden.
Glad he’s all good. Next year build the pipe bigger collect some branches, leaves etc… keep them alive. I’ve seen a few in our garden over the years great to see them.
When grass rots it creates heat , attracts bugs, that is a hedgehog residential caravan with live larder. There were options to DIy improve the little hogs home, but calling the rescue centre after disturbing them was the best option.
hedgehogs are in massive decline in the UK! so thank you for saving him 💚
I once found a large perfect sphere of leaves under an ornamental grass…it took me a few moments to realise it was a hedgehog hibernating. They are the coolest creatures.
Thanks for sharing this. I never knew hedgehog hibernation dens looked as basic as a small pile of grass and could have easily disturbed that! I know what to look out for now 😊
Cover with hay , or a peace of carpet treat it if u was under neath it
Can you get him/her back in the Spring? Can you make your garden hedgehog friendly for him/her?
Well done OP those little guys need all the help they can get 🙌🏻
