Is that not a nopal? You literally just let it dry out where it was cut, and then put it in dirt and don’t water for a while.

Yowch. I bury them about 1/3 down into dry cactus soil and it’ll root eventually. I’ll water it a month later (unless it starts to look wrinkly) then leave it alone again for a while.

What I do with most of my pad cacti is dry them out and put them either right in the ground or a small bucket 1/3-1/2 way down, the whole pad will root, I’ve had them fall flat on the ground, and a month later they curl upward and start growing 🤣 also, RIP pain free palm… Them little spines are the WORST to get out and they just stick in so easy

  4. I just chopped to prop all leaves on my Bunny Ear Cactus….. Then I thought naaaaa I HATE THIS DAMN CACTUS! I have saved it from the trash once… Then I started about ten cacti from it.. Moved it back outside for warmer weather….Moved it back in and that sh!t is going in the trash tomorrow! Even with my long cactus gloves I still somehow manage to get those fiberglass spines on me! Bye Satan Cacti!

  5. bunny ear cactus. a member of the opuntia / prickly pear group. needs more light than you probably think. i’d let it callous and i’d stick the bottom in dirt.

Those things leave the most gnarly hair like thorns in my hands and arms everytime I’m near one. Surprised you’re just holding it. But throw it in the dirt. It will thrive

I’ve had luck propagating these. My 2 pads are much smaller they both have all kinds of arms 5 months later. Although as another poster commented they need more light than you’d expect as mine are stretching from lack of light. Another comment also mentioned the spines they hurt like hell owie!

  8. I have one of those fucking bastards, you won’t need to be told not to touch it again

Ugh, I’ve been scratching one side of one finger incessantly all day long after a gentle brush with maybe two glochids on one of my cacti yesterday, and here this photo is. How are you not taking a cheese grater to your hands right now?

Bro in your whole hand???? I look at one of these and get a spine stuck in my skin

Quick update: I appreciate everyone’s concern, and I’ve learned not to handle strange plants with such bravado! My palm really is okay, but my index finger had a prickle that needed to be fished out. My husband had a fun time reminding me of the stinging nettle I touched barehanded when we started dating. Hopefully this time the lesson sticks 🤡

  12. Oh god I touched one once and it was nearly 8 months before I stopped finding spines in my hand.

do NOT get in a car and especially do NOT touch a steering wheel while covered in spines. don’t touch anything for that matter
